History Opened during the Carnival of 1678 as the San Giovanni Crisostomo Theatre, the Malibran Theatre took its current name in 1835 when it managed to engage the most famous opera singer of the time, Maria Garcia Malibran, by naming the building after her. Built on the former site of Marco Polo's family home, the Malibran has recently undergone major restoration, giving the international public back the original charm of a theatre concentrated in an amber atmosphere of ochre and orange under the frescoed ceilings from which the ancient light of Murano glass chandeliers rains down. Activities and services Currently the Malibran Theatre is the venue for a number of performances on the La Fenice Theatre programme, in particular, the 2006-2007 Chamber Music season "Verso la Giovinezza". Location Located a few minutes from Rialto Bridge and the city's market, the Malibran Theatre is near the church of San Giovanni Crisostomo.
