| On the last Saturday of Carnival, 21st February 2009, the La Fenice Theatre Foundation will again put forward the by now customary Cavalchina Grand Ball appointment. This historical fancy dress party with entertainment à l'ancienne was famous in the 19th century, and also one of the chief attractions of the 2007 and 2008 Carnivals. |

This year's Love and Illusion theme will mark a party in which the masks are inspired by those vague borderlines that unite love affairs, be they great, brief, famous or less noted. The theatre's auditorium, cleared of its seats, will be transformed for one night into an exclusive, sophisticated ballroom, where guests will be able to take part in both old and modern dances accompanied by a live orchestra, and also enjoy a DJ's selection of disco music after midnight. The stage will host a grand comic-acrobatic variety show which will open with a spectacular surprise number. Details of this will be kept secret until the last minute, as with the white thoroughbred horse which was the protagonist in an elegant and equally unique pas de deux with a ballerina in 2007, and the astonishing plays of water and light which amazed guests at the 2008 Cavalchina Ball. |
